HORSEMANSHIP

Horsemanship means a lot of different things to different people but to me it is away of being around horses.

I take into account the horses need for self preservation and their need to be safe, comfortable and confident with their surroundings.

Horsemanship is about giving the horse a good deal, being firm but fair and being consistent for them.  I try and set things up for the horse so that they can succeed and not get punished when they are confused or frightened.

It is all about giving the horse the leadership they need so they can carry out the task requested, regardless of the chosen discipline.  As riders and handlers of horses, the emphasis is on us to improve our skills so that we can help our horses understand our needs and requirements.
